Galeria Patio del Liceo, galeriapatiodelliceo.com, exemplifies an awesome movement in retail. Located in a heavily trafficked shopping district of Buenos Aires, this small shopping mall off the main drag features a wide variety of independent designers. Artists and entrepreneurs joined together to revitalized this three story complex with 30 to 40 spaces situated around a beautiful atrium patio and coffee and beer bar.
Businesses ranged from student designers, to established home goods and resale shops. A few of my favorite finds…
Glorious chandelier earrings made with up-cycled CDs that I picked up in a boutique devoted to sustainable products. Pendant lamp made with chopsticks, up-cycled rubber bags and accessories, hand woven textiles, hand carved wood toys and hand made bronze jewelry to name a few.
Greens Label – classic clothing pieces for women featuring fine, natural fabrics. Greens also has a home store, one level below, with artisan ceramics, bags, textiles and more. I love their mission statement, “Working with Social and Environmental Awareness. Manufactured with pride in Buenos Aires.”
There were several great vintage stores, my favorite was littlel.boutique. A lovely proprietress who curated a great mix and pointed me to towards this handmade butter yellow purse with studding. I also picked up a grey wool coat dress in great condition.
Several other vintage stores featured items ranging from the 50’s to the 90’s. There was also a couple very interesting independent designers who worked with unique fabrics and prints. And finally, a couple of designers working in paper and on awesome pet products.
I highly recommend a visit if you find yourself in the lovely city of Buenos Aires. And you can cap off your shopping visit with a cool cerveza on the patio in Galeria Patio del Liceo.
